The woods were replanted, after being felled during the war, by Rudge Humphreys. He planted hardwood such as Oak, Beech, Chestnut, and Lime, and also commercial softwood areas of Larch, Douglas Fir, Spruce and Californian Redwood.
Timber Production
The woods are managed sustainably; thinnings provide fencing materials, and pulp for the Pathfinder Renewable Energy woodchip for biomass. Chestnut is coppiced for rails and stakes, hazel for rods, firewood is also available. Hardwood timber of all kinds is produced for sale – Oak, Beech, Sycamore, Ash, Alder, Yew and Californian Redwood.
